Brazilian architect Gisele Taranto, in collaboration with art curator Vanda Klabin along with lighting designer Maneco Quinderé and landscape designers from Landscape Studio, have created a master suite, as part of Casa Cor Rio 2013, one of the most important events of national interior design in Brazil.

This year the event is taking place in a building complex at Barra da Tijuca district located at a nature reserve on the west side of Rio de Janeiro. The main idea of the event is that each architect refurbishes a different section of unused apartments.

The project for the master suite, placed on the second floor of a two story penthouse apartment, was created for a couple that value intimacy and privacy, and neglects a TV in the bedroom. One of the main concepts for the project was that all spaces were connected between them, replacing the technological ideal of the TV for the connection of inside and outside spaces. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors emphasize the flow between the bedroom and the terrace. Limiting this private terrace, top and front wooden sun-braking panels assure privacy.

The master bathroom receives natural light from a side to side skylight just above the shower area, creating the sensation of a rain shower by grouping several single showers. By placing the shower across the washstand it provides an intimate connection between who is using the shower and who is outside.

Wall and ceiling are covered with gray stucco contrasting with demolition wooden floor named Imbuia Sassafrás, used to produce cachaça barrels. The colorful objects and works-of-art placed through the master suite stand out in the environment.

All the lightning, furniture and fabric materials were chosen for a contemporary couple that invests in quality pieces such as the Potence wall lamp by designer Charlotte Perriand for Vitra, TXL floor lamp by designer Joan Gaspar for Marset, a 3 x 6 meter silk rug, linen curtain by Ralph Lauren, Tatlin bed, Morisson night stand, Clyford and Parrish side tables, Flavin chair and Love armchair all by designer Rodolfo Dordoni for Minotti, writing-desk by designer Emanuel Gallina for Poliform, Maia outdoor armchairs by designer Patricia Urquiola for Kettal, fire stand by Emiliana Design Studio for Kettal, and end of nineteenth century Portuguese furniture (drawer, ladder and chair in pine and oak wood).
