This beautiful Villa, located in Panchgani, was designed by Ground 11 ArchitectsArchitects in Pune. The villa is a vacation home and weekend house, designed to offer comfort and ease. For this project, the location  and site made it essential for the landscape to integrate and wrap around the built form seamlessly, following the ebb and flow of the site levels. So let’s start our tour.

The Landscaping

The villa is located in a quiet, secluded space, offering privacy to the clients. The surrounding greenery is necessary in order to maintain the beauty of the property. The team at Ground 11 designed the landscape as a part of the building, first zoning it then specifying the plans and shrubs to enrich the landscape. Then, the regular trimming of the plants and upkeep over the time the villa was constructed has resulted in this astounding green garden

The Rustic Chic

The villa’s design is rustic chic. This means that they have used old school elements to create a modern design. The tiled roof harmoniously follows traditional methods of roofing in Panchgani, due to its extremely heavy rains, and the overall look replicates a barn style design. This rustic design looks quite beautiful, nestled in its hillside locale. The exterior has been kept simple otherwise to allow the natural beauty to shine through.

An Overall View

The villa is located on a lower level  than the garden on one side and slopes downwards across the site. This allows the villa to be shaded by the roofs and the greenery both. Surrounding the villa is a vast garden, where one can host picnics, dinner parties and have an overall fun time, with spectacular panoramic views across the hills of the Western Ghats.

The Façade

A closer look at the façade reveals the neutral tones used on the walls. The use of tiles in the roof compliments the beige coloured walls throughout the entire home. The wooden sitout decks outside the bedrooms and the wooden pillars used in the structure are quite beautiful. Wooden beams have been restored and used as structural elements to enhance the rustic nature of the building.

The Path

The villa has a wonderful path that circles around the property. The sloping path leads down into the vast garden and a parallel path leads up to the house. Here, we can also see the compound wall that lines the outside of the property. The wall is composed of slabs of locally available stone that give a sense of privacy while allowing a visual link.

The Last Glimpse

Although we only had a view of the exterior, it is time to bid the villa a final goodbye. From here, we see a panoramic view of the villa. The villa flows along the ground, and is longer as compared to other homes and villas with a single storey. The exteriors show numerous windows, French windows and glass doors that lead out into the numerous sitouts and the garden.
